The FREYWILLE manufactory was founded in Vienna in 1951 by the artist Michaela Frey. In the beginning, she focused on the production of decorative items made of enamel and, eventually, started to create jewelery.
By the 1970s, Michaela’s business had grown considerably, but she wanted to focus on the artistic part of her work. She found the perfect partner in Dr. Friedrich Wille, who directed the company in legal and financial matters. Wille recognised the potential of the company and encouraged the internationalization of FREYWILLE, first through outside sales companies in Europe, then through the boutique concept.
After the death of Michaela Frey, in 1980, Dr. Wille took over the company and assigned the artist Simone Grünberger (later Grünberger-Wille) to reignite the artistic fire of FREYWILLE. Under her creative direction, an innovative team of artists created a jewelery line with elegant shapes and timeless designs. Grünberger-Wille, a Master Class graduate in metal design from Vienna‘s University of Applied Arts, dedicated herself to the development of the unique FREYWILLE fire enamel technique, and her results revolutionized the company.
Today, FREYWILLE is internationally established with more than 100 boutiques in the best locations in Europe, Asia, Australia and North and South America.
